Five Guys Burgers and Fries review

It’s the most talked about burger bar in town.

Recently announced as overtaking Nandos as the UK’s most popular fast-food chain, I headed to Five Guys Burgers and Fries to see what all the fuss is about.

So you might have seen a few Instagram posts that look like this:

Look tasty right?

Well they are. I went yesterday to sample the menu and I was very very satisfied.

I was greeted by some friendly looking people who talked me through the menu, they could see I was a Five Guys newbie. I went for a double cheeseburger with bacon, grilled onions, BBQ sauce and lettuce. A classic combination. I got chips and a drink and the whole order was ready for me within minutes. Before we get on to the main event, let’s talk about chips.

Holland? I don’t know if that makes them tastier? Is Holland the front runner when it comes to potatoes? There’s lots of talk about the chips being cooked in peanut oil. This is true. ‘The chips taste like peanuts’ is not true.

This absolute beast is the drinks machine. Huge choice with some pretty fruity sounding fruit flavoured choices. I went for a Dr.Pepper. What’s the worst that can happen?

Here’s the main event. My mouthwatering double bacon cheese burger in all it’s glory. My bacon was crispy which is exactly as I like it and I can’t deny it was probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. Think of this place as top class fast food, this is definitely not a gourmet burger (and if that’s what you’re looking for I think there’s another burger company you could opt for).

This is sloppy, tasty, cheesy, comforting, burger and chips on some tin foil that will fill you up for the rest of the day. I ate my meal at noon and didn’t eat anything else for 7 hours. You get given more chips than what you know what to do with and of course, most importantly, you get to join the Five Guys Instagram crew.

Let’s face it, if you don’t bother putting a picture online then you might as well have not gone.

My verdict: Proper Tasty.

It’s not groundbreaking, it’s burgers and chips. However. It’s ridiculously nice burger and chips. It’s not cheap. You will pay less at McDonalds. But since when have ridiculously nice things been cheap? The only time you’ll hear anybody complaining about this place is in regards to the cost. My meal came to £14.95. If you’re happy to spend the cash, go and treat yourself to a tremendous burger.
